About the Event
EKG screening in honor of Cameron Gallagher at Douglas S. Freeman High School
16 year old Cameron Gallagher, a sophomore at Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond Va, died of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in March 16,2014 after crossing the finish line at the Shamrock Half-Marathon in Virginia Beach. She would be graduating this year, and the senior class has adopted “Let’s Finish This” as their class slogan. These are the words Cameron said at mile 12 while taking a break to stretch before accomplishing her goal of running the half marathon. Cameron smiled and hugged her friend and then finished her race here on earth just a few steps after crossing the finish line. Cameron’s heart was a full heart that just wanted to love and be loved. Join us at Freeman High School Feb 20th for free heart screenings. Take the time to take care of your self and live a healthy, happy and kind life to its fullest, “Let’s Finish This!”
One high school aged athlete suffers a Sudden Cardiac Arrest every three days in the U.S! The leading cause of death in young athletes on the playing field is an undetected heart condition. The best way to detect these heart conditions is through a heart screening using an EKG (Electrocardiogram).
The Ryan Lopynski Big Heart Foundation will conduct FREE ON-SITE heart screenings for high school and middle school age youths in Richmond. An EKG screening analyzes the electrical signals of the heart. The results are reviewed on site by local cardiologists.
